KA: Do you go out boating a lot?

Olivia: Well not really, its usually just Dad.

KA: Have you ever sailed?

Olivia: Yes. Its really fun.

KA: What do you like most about being on the water?

Olivia: Depending on the weather. If its nice and sunny I like it because its cool and really relaxing sometimes.

KA: So you have been in rough weather?

Olivia: Yes, sometimes.

KA: Was it exciting, or scary?

Olivia: I didn’t like it. It was on a launch, but I can’t imagine what it would be like on a sailboat.

KA: Did you get really wet?

Olivia: Yeah.

KA: What is your favorite part about the Volvo Ocean Race?

Olivia: That you can travel probably.

KA: What’s your favorite place so far? 

Olivia: Probably Newport, when they were doing training there. I really like it there.

KA: This is your time doing a traveling school, how do you like it?

Olivia: Its really fun, but I do miss my friends a lot.

KA: What is your least favorite thing about the Volvo Ocean Race?

Olivia: Not being able to see my friends and family.

KA: What is your favorite thing to do at school?

Olivia: Hanging out with my friends.

KA: What is your favorite sport or game?

Olivia: Probably tag.

KA: What have you learned that you did not know before.

Olivia: I didn’t know very much about sailing when I started, and now I know tons more about it. Because my dad’s the trimmer on Tyco, and if he had said “I’m the trimmer on Tyco” when I first started, I would have said, “What on earth is a trimmer?” Now I know pretty much all the parts on the boat.

KA: Do you think that you would be interested in learning to sail yourself?

Olivia: Yes, but probably not do a Volvo Ocean Race. I do not think I would like to be one of the girls on the girls’ boat.

KA: What is you favorite thing to do?

Olivia: Well I really like ballet dancing at the moment.

KA: How long have you been doing that?

Olivia: Only a year.

KA: What is it about sailing that you think you dad likes so much?

Olivia: Probably getting out on the water. He’s done it since a little boy and he’s always wanted to do a Volvo race but he’s never had the chance. He’s been asked a lot of times, but he’s never put his name forward.

KA: Is he happy about it?

Olivia: Yeah.
