MIAMI, Dec. 15, 2005 – Strictly Sail Miami, the sail-only portion of the Miami International Boat Show, today announced it will partner with Kids Aboard to feature a free boat-building workshop for children ages 6 and older at the South Florida show at Miamarina at Bayside Marketplace.
From noon to 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 17 through Monday, Feb. 20, children will work under the supervision of U.S.-certified, bilingual instructors to build two 10-foot wooden vessels out of lumber, caulk and hardware provided by Shell Lumber of Coconut Grove, Fla. In addition, the children will build a sailing rig and paddles and a glass-bottom window for the hull, which will make the small yacht one of the most unique vessels on the planet. The sailboats will be painted by the children and launched into Biscayne Bay on Monday. All participants will receive free t-shirts.
“The Kids Aboard program is a popular attraction for families attending the Miami show,” said Kevin Murphy, national show manager with Sail America. “The kids have fun using their skills and learning about sailing while parents are afforded the time to stroll the docks and shop.”
