Norwalk Boat Show Offers Boating Fun for the Whole Family
Kids Aboard Workshops to return for the 3rd year

Posted Sunday, September 9, 2007

This year at the Norwalk Boat Show there will be even more fun for the whole family! Headlining the family events and activities is the Kids Aboard Workshop, back for its third year at Norwalk. This popular educational activity takes place daily from noon to 6 p.m. This free workshop for children six and over provides a fun, team, boat-building experience while their parents shop the Show. Children work under the supervision of U.S. certified, bilingual instructors to build 10 foot glass bottom boat which will be launched at the Show. Since 2002, Curtis and Magilu Tucker have conducted Kid’s Aboard Boat Building Workshop throughout the United States, and they have taught on three continents. For more information, visit www.KidsAboardWorkshops.org

Complenting the boat building activities, Captain Kids will be on hand with their Discovery Point interactive exhibit. Daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Discovery Point Exhibit produced by Captain Kid’s located in the Discover Boating Village offers interactive learning stations designed to encourage children to get interested and involved in the water. Stations include model boat racing, knot tying, boater’s safety, ocean literacy, fishing and conservation. The entire exhibit offers children a chance to learn and explore with their parents in a fun and educational way. Captain Kids is a non-profit, national initiative connecting kids, parents, teachers, and aquatic based educational and recreational programs around the country in the hopes of igniting a lifetime interest in the world of water. From water sports to maritime culture, from boating and fishing to aquariums and maritime museums, Captain Kids helps children explore and participate in lifetime activities.

Another favorite at the Norwalk Boat Show are the Discover Sailing & Boating Rides, where attendees can get a taste of the boating lifestyle and relax for a wonderful half-hour ride on the Long Island Sound. These fantastic rides are compliments of Rex Boating Club and Duchtman Sailing Schools. This popular attraction fills up quickly so sign up for your ride as soon as you can at the head of A Dock. For the fishermen and anglers in the family there are several informative and educational seminars and clinics offered throughout the four days of the show. Westport Outfitters, in conjunction with the Norwalk International In-Water Boat Show, will be conducting a series of hands on educational clinics covering a range of topics from Bait Casting to Fly Fishing. All of these instructional topics will end with a contest to demonstrate accuracy, distance and placement of baits and the winners will be awarded a host of prizes and giveaways. These clinics will be conducted in the CAST-A-WAY area located in the Seminar Hall.
